CWBA 3 (away) 40-19 Coach Smith leads Wolves in a new direction

Worcester Wolves Wheelchair Basketball Club are off to a flying start in the 2018/19 season, securing 40-19 win over the Coventry Wheelchair Basketball Academy (CWBA) in Division 3 South West of the British Wheelchair Basketball National League.

The team travelled away to Woodlands Academy under the new direction of head coach Harry Smith. Smith, who is a Sports Coaching Science graduate was the University of Worcester head coach last season. He has also shadowed GB Men’s head coach Haj Bhania to improve his coaching expertise.

Both teams got off to a slow start scoring-wise but, Wolves displayed phenomenal defence throughout the game. As the battle went on Worcester’s scoring power increased from the second quarter onwards as they had a 20-9 lead at halftime.

In the second half Wolves continued to dominate as the score was 32-13 at the end of the third as the away team comfortably saw out the game in the final quarter.

Top scorer with 11 points was Frankie Jones who has returned to the club following his seasonal stint at the now defunct premier league club TCAT Warriors.

Post-match coach Smith said: “Defensively the boys put an absolute effort in today as we kept Coventry to under 20 points. When our offense got flowing we started moving the ball more which is what strung things together as we ended putting quite a few points on the board.

I’m pleased we got the win in the first game of the season and I think we’ve got a good platform to build on from here.”
